Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced the country’s willingness to strengthen ties with Thailand in all fields as a nuclear deal reached between Iran and six world powers, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), has terminated all nuclear-related sanctions against Tehran.

“Today, the conditions are highly suitable for the enhancement of interaction between Tehran and Bangkok with the termination of sanctions,” President Rouhani said in a meeting with Thailand’s Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai in Tehran on Sunday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

The president stressed that bilateral cooperation should not be confined to trade, saying Iran is willing to forge close relations with Thailand in the cultural, academic and tourism sectors as well.

He also called for the expansion of collective cooperation among members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) with the purpose of promoting regional development, noting that the developing nations should provide each other with their experience in different spheres.

The visiting Thai minister also predicted that Iran will turn into an “economic power” in the near future considering its efforts to train skilled manpower during the sanctions era.

Don Pramudwinai also referred to visits to Iran by multiple Thai delegations as a sign of the Southeast Asian country’s resolve to bolster its ties with Tehran.

The Thai diplomat is heading a delegation of 50 businessmen and officials from different companies seeking to identify business opportunities in Iran.

 Zarif: Iran market pivotal for Thailand

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also held talks with his Thai counterpart on Sunday.

Zarif said Thailand can benefit from Iran’s market in different sectors, expressing Tehran’s readiness to improve relations with Bangkok, Press TV reported.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran’s market can play a leading role in the fields of transit, regional exchanges, re-export, multilateral cooperation and strengthening of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, fishery and aquatics,” he said.

Saying that the two countries have managed to develop relations based on mutual respect and common interests, the Iranian foreign minister added that Tehran is ready to further expand ties with Bangkok in political, economic and cultural areas.

Pointing to the constructive cooperation between the two sides in regional and international organizations, Zarif said Iran will actively contribute to the promotion of peace and stability and the campaign against terrorism.

Thailand keen to boost Iran ties

The Thai foreign minister also said Tehran-Bangkok relations have always been based on mutual respect. He said his country seeks to boost cooperation with Iran in the fields of politics, economy, trade and culture.

Pramudwinai praised the positive outcomes of the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries and hoped his country would find new grounds for cooperation with Iran.

He emphasized that Thailand seeks to improve the level of its cooperation with Iran in regional and international organizations.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, the Thai foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Sunday to hold talks with Iranian officials.
