Iran turns sanction-stricken economy into regional power: Russian expert

Moscow, April 3, IRNA – A member of Russia’s Civic Chamber hailed the economic activities in Iran, saying the current Iranian government changed the sanction-stricken economy into a regional and extra-regional power.

Speaking to IRNA here, Veronika Krasheninnikova said that Iran managed to experience remarkable achievements in the areas of foreign policy and economy after the July 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Undoubtedly, Krasheninnikova said, Washington with the help of Western countries spared no efforts to isolate Iran and tried to baselessly introduce Tehran as a threat to the international security.

In the past two years, the reports released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have confirmed Iran’s faithfulness to its commitments under the JCPOA.

The IAEA reports, as the Russian official noted, prevented the US from launching any political maneuvers against Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.

On bilateral ties, she said that Moscow is ready to cooperate with Tehran to develop economic relations as the two countries’ presidents have underlined the importance of expansion of the economic cooperation.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani heading a high-ranking delegation flew to Russia on March 27 for a two-day visit.

Krasheninnikova also talked of Iran’s regional role, saying Tehran plays a leading role in solving the regional crises.

She concluded by pointing to good cooperation between Russia and Iran to solve the regional questions including the Syrian crisis.
