Pakistan adviser to Prime Minister for Commerce, Textile, Industries, Production and Investment says he would like to see much greater trade with Iran which is Pakistan’s next door neighbor.

Abdul Razak Dawood after holding a meeting with Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost told IRNA that he had a useful meeting with the Iranian envoy during which economic issues between the two countries were discussed.

“I had a very good meeting with Ambassador of Iran and we talked about how we can enhance the trade between the two countries,” he said. 

The minister added,'I am in full support of boosting trade with Iran and I would like to see trade growing between Iran and Pakistan.'

He said that Iranian ambassador gave many points during the meeting. Dawood went on to say, 'we have got issues of banking, issues of electricity, gas, some of our products go to Iran and we would like to trade more with Iran. I would certainly look into these things as I would like to see much greater trade with Iran.'

The adviser said he is going to have a meeting with State Bank governor on how to solve the banking problem with Iran. “Your ambassador has given us three options and we would look at those,” said the official.

“I would like to see trade with Iran very well. I believe that it is good for Pakistan to do trade with all of its neighbors,” he added.

Leaders of Iran and Pakistan had already agreed to enhance bilateral trade volume to $5 billion within next five years. The current volume between Iran and Pakistan stands at $1.3 billion.
