Prof. Samii: Iran to offer world’s best brain diseases services

Belgrade, Feb 17, IRNA – Iran’s internationally-acclaimed neurosurgeon Professor Majid Samii said Iran will become world’s best place for treatment of brain and neurological diseases by the next decade.

Talking to IRNA on Tuesday, he said he expected the construction phase of the research center on neurosurgery and brain studies he is building in Iran to complete soon.

He said he was sure Iran will turn to be a world-class hub of all areas relating to neurology and brain diseases with patients coming to Iran from corners of the world.

He said such a center could set an example for other countries to gain progress in these medical areas.

The professor said he has invited the best experts from all over the world to cooperate with the research center which is to offer services to people from all countries.

The world renowned Iranian neurosurgeon received ‘Golden Medal of Merit’ from Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Monday.

During a ceremony held on February 15, Serbia’s National Day, the Serbian president honored 66 personalities and institutions with medals of merit.

Nikolic lauded Dr. Samii for his scientific achievements and long-term cooperation with Serbia. Majid Fahimpour, the Iranian ambassador to Serbia also attended the ceremony.

Dr. Samii has worked in association with hospitals and medical centers in Serbia in the field of neurosurgery for about 25 years. Additionally, Serbian neurosurgeons receive training in a hospital in Germany where Dr. Samii is a member.

Professor Majid Samii was the founding president and founding member of several national and international foundations and societies. He has received several prestigious national and international awards, honors and medals, including Golden Neuron Award and Leibniz Ring Prize in 2014 as well as the Friendship Award of the People's Republic of China.

He has been the president of the International Society for Neurosurgery and was elected as the founding president of the Congress of International Neurosurgeons (MASCIN) in 2003.

Dr. Samii was also guest of honor in many neurosurgical meetings and had given more than 1000 lectures as special and invited lecturer in international congresses.

The Golden Medal of Merit is annually awarded to scientists active in cultural, scientific, technical, and sport sectors.
