Zarif: Iran willing to boost ties with EU

Tehran, Feb 17, IRNA – Iran is willing to improve relations with the European states, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Tuesday evening.

He made the remarks in a meeting with President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.

Zarif stressed on boost of parliamentary ties between Iran and Europe, adding that Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi will pay a visit to the region in near future.

Boroujerdi's upcoming visit to Brussels can prepare the ground for enhancement of parliamentary cooperation between Iran and EU, he noted.

Zarif underlined that both Iran and EU are keen to accelerate enhancement of relations after implementation of Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA).

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia – plus Germany finalized the text of an agreement dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the Austrian capital city of Vienna.

Based on the JCPOA, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the lifting of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.

Iranian officials, however, have already said that in case of a violation of the agreement by the P5+1 member, the Islamic Republic reserves the right to return to its peaceful nuclear activities to the scale that existed before the JCPOA.
