Tehran-Astana ties to grow in post-sanctions era

Kazakhstan's Deputy Foreign Minister Askar Mosinov said the removal of sanctions has offered great opportunities for Tehran and Astana to bolster economic cooperation.

"The annulment of international sanctions will increase trade exchanges between Tehran and Astana," Mosinov said, reported Fars News Agency.

Referring to the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers in July and implemented in January, he said the deal will benefit his country's entrepreneurs and traders, particularly for trade via Caspian Sea.

According to the Kazakh official, the two neighbors can now work together in trade, finance, banking, and food imports. To this end, Mosinov said, the two sides also signed a deal to launch direct flights between Tehran and Almaty immediately after the nuclear was reached.

Kazakhstan's Ambassador in Tehran Baghdad Amiriyev said last year that his country would prioritize expansion of trade and industrial ties with Iran, and that it has provided exceptional conditions for the activity of some Iranian companies in Astana.

In December 2014, Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov urged Tehran and Astana to enhance economic ties by bolstering cooperation in trade and commercial fields. "My country is interested in broadening ties with Iran, especially in economic and trade areas," he said in Astana.
