Epoxy Resin is a synthetic resin which can be used for many different purposes. When the liquid resin is mixed with a suitable hardener, a chemical reaction is set in motion, which usually lasts several hours.
After mixing the components with each other, not only heat is radiated, but the material also changes from the liquid to the solid state. In order for Epoxy Resin to cure perfectly, the mixing ratio of resin to hardener is usually 1 to 1 or even 1 to 2.
Different Epoxy or Synthetic Resins have different properties and can be used for many different applications according to the manufacturer’s specifications. There is a large number of different resins, which differ significantly in the duration of the curing process, hardness and insensitivity of the finished surfaces.
Further properties for the selection of the appropriate Epoxy Resin can be factors such as heat resistance and the maximum layer thickness that can be applied to the material.
Applications:
Epoxy Resin is a clear polymer that is used for coating wood, veneer, metal, stone, painted surfaces, table tops and many other surfaces to give a rich super gloss look and protect from scratching and air humidity.
Epoxy Resins are used in the manufacture of adhesives, plastics, paints, coatings, primers and sealers, flooring and other products and materials that are used in building and construction applications.
Epoxy Resins also help to provide durable, high-gloss outdoor coatings, as well as sealers for concrete floors and other heavy-duty protective coatings used in industrial settings.
Epoxy Resin is the most common thermosetting polymer used in aircraft structures. Epoxy Resin is used as an adhesive in aircraft structural joints and repairs.
Water-based Epoxy paints dry quickly, providing a tough, protective coating. Their low volatility and clean-up with water make them useful for factory cast iron, cast steel, and cast aluminum applications, with far less risk from exposure or flammability than alternatives based on organic solvents.
Handling and Storage:
Most Epoxy Resins are considered and classified as irritants. Epoxy Resins are usually considered as mild to moderate irritants to the eye, skin, and mucous membranes.
Epoxy Resin should be stored between 65°F - 90°F. Refrigeration will not enhance the storage stability of Epoxy Resin. Epoxy Resins are naturally susceptible to crystallization, especially at temperatures below the recommended storage temperatures.
Containers of Epoxy Resin should be stored in clean dry areas with adequate ventilation. Do not store Epoxy Resin near sources of heat. All lids should be securely fastened to prevent foreign matter contamination and moisture entry.
