Polyethylene (PE) is a thermoplastic polymer produced from the monomer ethylene and is available in two major types of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and low density poly ethylene (LDPE); the difference is that HDPE has a larger strength-to-density ratio. Poly ethylene is an enormously versatile polymer and is produced in a large variety of grades suited for varying applications. EX5 is an HDPE with good toughness, good tear strength, good stiffness and tenacity, low gel level and high molar mass. This grade is used for film extrusion, counter and carrier bag and wrapping of sheet and film.
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is a colorless, odorless, non-flammable and non-reactive solid in a granular form. HDPE is used in raw material for plastic processing industry. This thermoplastic polymer is made from Petroleum.
High Density Polyethylene is a cost-effective thermoplastic with linear structure which is manufactured at low temperature and pressure. HDPE is flexible, translucent/waxy, weather resistant, and displays toughness at very low temperatures.
One of the primary benefits of this plastic material comes from its inherent malleability. Due to its high melting point, HDPE remains rigid until very high temperatures. However, once it has reached its melting point, the plastic material can be quickly and efficiently molded for use across a variety of applications.
Applications:
As one of the most versatile plastic materials, HDPE plastic is used in a wide variety of packaging applications, including crates, trays, bottles for milk and fruit juices, caps for food packaging, shampoo bottles, detergent bottles, cutting boards, drums, industrial bulk containers, etc. Known for its outstanding tensile strength and large strength to density ratio, HDPE plastic has a high-impact resistance and melting point.
Low cost and easy processability make High Density Polyethylene a material of choice in several household and consumer goods like garbage containers, housewares, ice boxes, toys, etc. Due to its high tensile strength, HDPE is widely used in ropes, fishing and sport nets, nets for agricultural use, industrial and decorative fabrics, etc. HDPE can also be used in plastic surgery, specifically skeletal and facial reconstruction.
Other applications of High Density Polyethylene include pipes and fittings including pipes for gas, water, sewage, drainage, sea outfalls, industrial application, cable protection, steel pipe coating, large inspection chambers and manholes for pipe sewage, etc.
HDPE is an ideal material for underground piping used to deliver water. Long-lasting and weather-resistant, HDPE can be sterilized by boiling, making it an ideal material for food and beverage containers. Additionally, High Density Polyethylene can withstand most strong mineral acids and bases and it has excellent resistance to naturally occurring chemicals found in soil. Moreover, the material is virtually impervious to most common chemicals, water, solvents, acids, detergents, and cleaning fluids.
Safety and Storage:
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is a non-hazardous material and it’s over exposure by short-term or long-term inhalation does not cause any harmful health effect.
For handling and storage keep HDPE in cool, dark and well-ventilated place. Keep High Density Polyethylene away from heat, sunlight and strong oxidizing agents.
