Tylose MH4000 is a gelling and thickening agent made of methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose suitable for use in solid paints, powder paints, limewash paints, cement paints, distempers, emulsion based plasters, emulsion based tile adhesives and wall paper paste.

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) with the commercial name of Tylose is a white to yellowish fibrous or powdery solid. HEC is nonionic, non-toxic, tasteless and odorless. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is soluble in water and insoluble in common organic solvents.

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is manufactured by the etherification of Cellulose with Ethylene Oxide. The concentration of Tylose used in a formulation is dependent upon the solvent and the molecular weight of the grade.

Due to its advantageous properties, HEC is one of the most widely used Cellulose Ethers. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose has different properties such as thickening, suspending, adhesive, emulsifying and dispersing. HEC can be prepared in different viscosity range of solution.

Applications:

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose has wide application in paint industry. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose can provide the latex paint especially high PVA paints with excellent coating performance. With the use of HEC when the paint is thick paste, no flocculation will occur. Tylose has higher thickening effects. HEC can reduce the dosage, improve the cost-effectiveness of formulation, and enhance the washing resistance of paints.

HEC can be used as a thickener and cementing agent of workover fluid for oil wells. The liquid with Tylose used for thickening gets easily decomposed by the Acid, enzyme or oxidizing agent, and greatly enhances the ability of Hydrocarbon recovery. In the oil well fluid, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is used as the carrier of Proppant.

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is widely used in pharmaceutical formulations and as adjunct agent in topical drug formulations to facilitate the delivery of drugs with hydrophobic character. HEC is primarily used as a thickening agent in ophthalmic and topical formulations, although it is also used as a binder and film-coating agent for tablets. HEC is present in lubricant preparations for dry eye, contact lens care, and dry mouth.

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is used as a key ingredient in many household cleaning products and cosmetics. HEC also finds wide application in ink, textile dying, paper making, printing, pharmaceuticals, food, agriculture, forestry, etc.

Safety and Storage:

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is generally regarded as nontoxic, but it may cause chemical pneumonitis in case of inhalation and skin irritation.

HEC should be stored in a well-closed container, in a cool, dry place. Keep Hydroxyethyl Cellulose away from sunshine, fire and humidity.
