General Purpose Polystyrene 144 (GPPS)

General Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS) also known as Crystal Polystyrene are fragile, transparent and odorless polymers resulting from the polymerization of Styrene Monomer. GP Polystyrene can be used for both injection molding and extrusion applications. GPPS benefits from the easy processing characteristics as well as various certifications such as food contact.

Polystyrene is processed using all main polymers and plastics processing methods such as extrusion, injection molding, and thermoforming.

General Purpose Polystyrene is widely used due to its good physical and mechanical properties, environmental safety, chemical inertness to many substances, moisture-, electricity- and frost-resistance. Polystyrene (PS) and PS-based plastics are extensively used due to its low cost, low shrinkage, excellent X-ray resistance, ease of processing and a wide range of grades.

Applications:

General Purpose Polystyrene are used in the production of various household products (disposable tableware, rigid packaging, cosmetic containers, toys, CD-DVD cases, etc.) and construction industry (insulation boards, left-in-place formwork, sandwich panels), finishing and decorative materials: ceiling moldings, ceiling tiles, sound-absorbing Polystyrene elements, adhesive bases, and polymer concentrates; medical equipment: blood transfusion systems and auxiliary disposable tools.

Polystyrene is used to produce thin films when mixed with SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) copolymers. These films are successfully used in the packaging and confectionery industries and in the production of capacitors. Polystyrene and its modifications are widely used in the area of household appliances and electronics (body parts of household appliances).

Safety and Storage:

Do not breathe dust, fumes/vapor of Polystyrene. Provide adequate ventilation, including appropriate local extraction. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use non-sparking hand tools and explosion proof electrical equipment.

Store General Purpose Polystyrene at room temperature. Keep container tightly closed and keep GPPS in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep Polystyrene away from sources of ignition. Keep General Purpose Polystyrene away from heat, direct sunlight and incompatible materials such as strong oxidizing agents.
