Epoxidized Soybean Oil (ESO) is a non-toxic, clear to yellow liquid.
Epoxidized Soybean Oil (ESO) is the oxidation product of soybean oil with hydrogen peroxide and either acetic or formic acid obtained by converting the double bonds into epoxy groups, which is non-toxic and of higher chemical reactivity.
ESO is mainly used as a green plasticizer and stabilizer in plastic materials, especially Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and its copolymers to keep these plastics soft and pliable. Functional polymers are obtained by different kinds of reactions of the ESO with co-monomers and/or initiators.
Soybean oil is one of the most readily available and lower-cost vegetable oils in the world. Due to its low cost non-toxic and environmentally friendly properties, as well as its biodegradability over traditional phthalate plasticizers, ESO is replacing dioctyl phthalate (DOP) in some applications.

Applications
Epoxidized Soybean Oil is used as a pigment dispersing agent and acid/mercaptan scavenging agent as well as an epoxy reactive diluent. Epoxidized soybean oil and other epoxide substances are used as raw materials for various applications that include fuel additives, polyol replacements, agricultural and pharmaceutical molecules, flavor and fragrances, reactive diluents and UV cure applications, surfactants, adhesives, sealants, coatings, and special inks.
Packaging and Storage:
ESO is packed in 200 kg drums in bulk. Epoxidized Soybean Oil shelf life is 12 months if stored at room temperature and in sealed original drum.
ESO should be kept at temperature under 45° C in its original packaging and protected against effects of moisture. ESO cannot be pumped at below 10° C. Heating it at least to 45° C can ease off the problem.
