Sodasil P 95 Aluminum Silicate

Aluminum Silicate P95 is a precipitated, amorphous Sodium Aluminum Silicate produced from aqueous solutions. P95 is used as a white pigment in paints, printing inks and paper, where it acts as a partial substitute for Titanium Dioxide (extender), while it also increases the covering power and brightness of both paint and paper. P95 is easily dispersible in rubber, plastic, liquid and powder products.

Aluminum Silicate’s small particle size and its high degree of whiteness make it especially suitable for use as a white pigment in the production of different coatings:

• Waterborne dispersion paints (for exterior or interior)
• Solvent based paints
• Industrial coatings
• Lacquers
• Printing inks
• Fluidizing and anti-caking agent

While increasing hiding power of paint and paper, P95 Aluminum Silicate is also a very effective extender for Titanium Dioxide in dispersion paint formulations. Its benefits have been demonstrated in formulations in which up to 30% of Ti02 has been replaced.

Advantages of Use of Aluminum Silicate P95:

• Cost reduction in the formula as Titanium Dioxide is partially replaced.
• Increased stability of paint during storage. It acts as an anti-settling agent and viscosity and pH regulator.
• Gives exterior paints good weathering properties and reduces the tendency to pick up dirt. Reduces the specific gravity of the paint.
• Advantages of Aluminum Silicate P95 in terms of the optical properties of paint:

1. Improved opacity
2. Improved whiteness
3. Decreased yellowness

Application:

The Aluminum Silicate P95 can be substitute between 20 and 30% of the white pigment (TiO2) so as not to modify the optical properties of the paint manufactured without Aluminum Silicate. On the whole, it is advisable not to introduce more than 5% in weight of Aluminum Silicate in the formula of the paint.

Given the small particle size of this Aluminum Silicate and its high absorption, when a part of the TiO2 is replaced, an increase in the final viscosity of the paint is expected. For this reason, it is recommended to reduce the amount of thickeners used or to use a thickening agent of less viscosity.

Safety and Storage:

Aluminum Silicate P95 is not classified as a dangerous substance. Store P95 in a dry place to maintain the product's physical properties. Aluminum Silicate should not be stored for longer than one year from the supply date.
